There’s principally one word that comes to mind about the Merrimack Valley area… population. The area includes Concord, Manchester, Nashua and Salem and the lion’s share of the state’s population. Make no mistake, this area of the state is about commerce, and tourists usually pass thru rather than stay.
That being said there’s much to see here: great restaurants, splendid museums, the state’s largest venues (think concerts, minor league sports and live theater), and shopping, shopping and more shopping. There are a few tourist attractions. Canobie Lake Park is fun for the whole family and by far the largest.
Restaurants are a good mix of national chains and local creations. Lodging tends to be ‘name brands’ here. Cabins and cottages are rare, but not extinct. You just have to be flexible and stay a little ways out of town.
