Along the Kancamagus - Radeke Cabin    [ALERT! This cabin is large, sturdy and fun but lacks water, electricity, mattresses and linens. Some people describe it as 'dark'. If renting this cabin, bring potable water, air mattresses, sleeping bags, battery operated lamps, and outdoor cooking equipment.]

The White Mountains area is large, encompassing the entire width of the state, bounded on the south roughly just above Plymouth, Meredith and Wolfeboro and north to Littleton.

Although the population is relatively small, the area has some very well developed communities, and others seemingly frozen in the late 60’s. 

There are few lakes, some rivers and ponds but oodles of mountains. NH has 40 peaks above 4,000 feet, plus Mt. Washington, at 6,288 feet, is the tallest peak in the North East. Hiking trails seem almost everywhere. Tax free shopping is plentiful, and there are numerous family friendly attractions and amusement parks. People come from all over the world to enjoy the Kancamagus Highway. 

If you know where to look, less-common or unusual enchantments await you. ATV tours, spelunking, dog sled rides, snow coach rides, sleigh rides, zip lining, white water rafting, and moose tours are just some of them. You can also rent a kayak, canoe, ATV or snowmobile.   The area is home to several small railroads that provide dinner trains and scenic rides as well as an immensely popular Christmas train called the Polar Express.

Perhaps the best resource for area information is the White Mountains Association. The Mount Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Lincoln Woodstock Chamber are both good. UpStateNH.com is also quite useful.
